  • A Beautiful Performance...

  • 18/11/2008

Groupe onePoint sponsored the crossing of the Atlantic on the smallest boat ever attempted for a trip of this scale: only 1m 72 cm long!

Franck Andréotta, 58, decided to cross the Atlantic alone and without assistance on the smallest boat in the world, which he designed and built by himself. After several months of preparation, he set sail from Tenerife towards Guadalupe to live his life’s dream.

Groupe onePoint has chosen to help Franck Adréotta achieve his goal. In order to face the challenge, this navigator shared the same fundamental values as Groupe onePoint: the challenge, the implementation of a winning strategy, the drive, the respect for the environment, the anticipation, etc...” said David Layani, President and Founder of Groupe onePoint.

  • ... Success!
  • 31/05/2008
We are proud to announce that Franck ANDREOTTA has arrived in Pointe à Pitre, accomplishing his crazy dream of crossing the Atlantic on his small 1m 72 cm long boat!

After successfully battling the winds and currents of the Atlantic by keeping his morale high he arrived Friday May 30, at 9 p.m. (local time.)

“It is not because we are small that we do not achieve big things.”

Navigator Franck ANDREOTTA arrived in Pointe à Pitre Friday May 30 around 9 p.m. (local time.) Having left from Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands 48 days earlier aboard a sailboat 1m 72 cm long (he personally is 1m 82cm tall) he is in good physical shape despite having lost approximately 7 kg.

His first steps on dry land were marked by difficulty walking and regaining his balance. These difficulties were related to the extreme motion of the boat during such a long period of time and in a reduced volume, around 1,5m 3cm, creating a sort of quasi-immobility for the skipper, over a distance of 2800 nautical miles, approximately 5000km.

Having prepared well mentally, he knew how to manage these extreme conditions, particularly the lack of space and the solitude.

His crossing was struck with a few technical difficulties, including malfunction with the manual desalinator which temporarily deprived him of drinking water!

Additionally, a few days before arriving he found himself caught in a tropical wave that generated winds of up to 35 to 40 knots and a swell reaching 4 to 5 m high...
Having been cut off from communication for the past 5 days, his arrival was well-received by his loved ones. It was also cheered by sailors who came to greet him after a journey that had seemed unlikely in the beginning. In fact, the project had seemed impossible to see through...

After a few days of rest and relaxation Franck ANDREOTTA will head home and his boat will be shipped off to be displayed at the next nautical expo in Paris.
